I’m back, love bugs!! First, let me start off by apologizing for this much overdue post! Joe and I have been super busy with lots of wedding stuff since we arrived home from Cali and I have been super neglectful of this passion of mine. So, now that I have all of my apologies and guilt out of the way, let’s talk Cali! We started our trip in Napa with nothing other than lots and lots of wine. I am normally a sweeter wine kinda little lady, but I found a few Cab’s that were on the dry side that I really enjoyed! We stayed at a cute little B&B called The Wine Country Inn which had gorgeous views, a wood burning fireplace in our room and wineries within walking distance. We spent one night there and Janelle who booked our room for us, also created an itinerary for our two days in Napa with two for one winery tastings, a free tasting at one of the wineries and reservations for wine tastings. The wineries that we visited were CakeBread, Cossentino, Duckhorn, Freemark Abbey, Charles Krug and PlumpJack. The most beautiful one was definitely Duckhorn, we sat outside on a huge wrap around porch with views of the vineyard.
After Napa, we headed to San Francisco where we stayed for one night with Joe’s cousin and one night in a cute hotel. During our first day we walked the Golden Gate Bridge and it was breath taking! We could see the sea lions down in the water playing, it was so cute. You can also see Alcatraz from the bridge too, definitely wish we could have gone there but it takes a full day and we didn’t have a lot of time in San Fran. On our second day, we headed down the 1 for our next stop in San Luis Obispo. We stopped for lunch in Carmel at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands, this restaurant is a MUST! The views from the restaurant/hotel are unreal, definitely my favorite lunch spot on our road trip! After lunch we headed for Big Sur and made a stop at the McWay Waterfall which has a trail that takes you out to an amazing view of the ocean and the waterfall. The colors of the water were just gorgeous! And we got their just in time for sunset, Joe’s favorite. We didn’t stay too long as we needed to get to San Luis Obispo that night and when you are driving through Big Sur at night, it’s a little scary with the windy roads and in some spots, no guard rails with the ocean right below you. It’s beautiful and breath taking, but better in the daylight! Oh and no cell service for at least an hour and no gas stations for 40 miles, so you definitely need to be prepared.
Finally, around 8pm we made it to our hotel which was called The Madonna Inn. For those of you who have never heard of this place, you have got to look up pictures of the rooms! Every room has a different theme and it’s super over the top and reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, no joke. Joe chose the room and surprised me with “The Cave Room”. Literally, the walls, floors and shower were all made up of rock that were taken from the mountain that The Madonna Inn is built into. It was a really interesting place and one night in a cave was definitely enough for me! The next day we headed into town for a little bit and just had to see “Bubblegum Alley”. It is a little alley that just has tons of gum on the sides of these buildings, literally these bricks are covered in chewed gum. It was pretty gross, but we just had to see it. Then we headed to finally see some of our favorites in San Diego! It wasn’t the most fun ride as we were stuck in some LA traffic, but we did make a stop at one of my favorite shops that I buy clothes from pretty often online, Vici Collection! ! It was a cute little pop up shop in Newport Beach, they have their main location in Walnut Creek but Newport was on the way so it was a fun little stop on our trip. I can’t forget the many music videos Joe and I created on our way down to San Diego, honestly the most hilarious part of our trip, for sure!
Later, we made it to the San Diego airport where we dropped our car off and Joe’s cousin, Chris picked us up. The rest of our trip was spent with our favorite little family, the Keiper’s! Thanksgiving is always the best with them and this year didn’t disappoint. We, of course were not ready to leave when our trip was over but we had such a great time exploring, meeting new people, trying wines and spending tons of quality time with family. Couldn’t have asked for more! Check out some of our favorite photos from our trip below.
I hope you all enjoyed this post and all the photos from our memorable trip to CA!
See you back here later this week, loves!
